SAN DIEGO — The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 66-year-old man from a fishing vessel approximately 50 miles west of Oceanside Harbor, in San Diego, Friday.
At approximately 11:33 a.m., Friday, watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector San Diego received a request for assistance from the crew of the sport-fishing vessel Outer Limits that a 66-year-old male passenger was experiencing stroke-like symptoms.
Sector San Diego's flight surgeon recommended that the patient be medically evacuated and taken to a hospital for emergency care.
A Sector MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was diverted from routine training, arrived on scene, then safely hoisted the man at 1:35 p.m.
The Jayhawk crew returned to Sector San Diego at approximately 1:54 p.m., where he was transferred to awaiting EMS.
He was taken to University of California San Diego Medical Center, Hillcrest, in San Diego. His condition is unknown.
