Coast Guard medevacs man from NOAA vessel south of Beaufort, N.C.

WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Coast Guard medevaced an ailing crew member Thursday from a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) vessel south of Beaufort.Coast Guard Sector North Carolina watchstanders in Wilmington received a call Thursday afternoon from the vessel Pisces located approximately 35 miles southeast of Beaufort Inlet stating 35-year-old crewman had been suffering from an ear infection for several days.A Coast Guard 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew launched from Station Fort Macon in Atlantic Beach at about 4:50 p.m.The Coast Guard crew met the Pisces crew approximately seven miles south of Beaufort Inlet and took the ailing man aboard at approximately 5:30 p.m., along with several other crew members.The Coast Guard crew brought him to Station Fort Macon where he was placed in the care of awaiting EMS at about 6:30 p.m."Sector North Carolina watchstanders, Station Fort Macon crew members and local EMS all worked together to assist the NOAA crew," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Matthew Asire, officer of the day at Station Fort Macon. “We perform multiple medevacs throughout the year, and are always glad to assist a fellow agency."
