SAN PEDRO, Calif. – Coast Guard members participated in a Los Angeles County Sheriffs memorial run honoring Senior Chief Petty Officer Terrell Horne in Marina Del Ray, August 17, 2015.
Members from Coast Guard Cutter Halibut, homeported in Marina Del Ray, Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles- Long Beach, Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles and surrounding Coast Guard units were invited to participate in the annual run held by the graduating class of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Academy.
Each graduating class selects an honoree to dedicate the run to and Class 407 selected Senior Chief Horne. Horne was killed in the line of duty in 2012 while conducting a counter drug operation aboard the Halibut.
“When somebody falls from an agency it hurts everyone and we wanted to pay our respects to our partners and understand what it means to make the ultimate sacrifice,” said William Edson, Deputy Sheriff, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The memorial run started and ended at the homeport of the Halibut where a moment of silence was shared between both agencies in respect to Senior Chief Horne.
