Coast Guard, partners searching for overdue boater near Wrangell, Alaska

November 16, 2015

JUNEAU, Alaska — The Coast Guard, Alaska State Troopers and Wrangell Search and Rescue are searching for a man boating aboard the white, 38-foot bayliner Thalassa in the vicinity of Wrangell Monday.

The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Anacapa, an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Sitka, ASTs and Wrangell SAR are conducting a search for Kenneth Trammel, 53, of Wrangell, near Berg Bay, Blake Channel and Deer Island.

Trammel was reported overdue by family to the Alaska State Troopers who contacted Coast Guard Sector Juneau watchstanders for assistance.  The crew of the Anacapa and the helicopter crew were dispatched after an aerial by search Wrangell SAR was unsuccessful.

"The Coast Guard and its partners are up against some extreme weather, but we train year-round to locate and assist missing mariners," said Cmdr. Marc Burd , Sector Juneau search and rescue mission coordinator. "We also appreciate the assistance of any good Samaritans who can aid in the search or provide any information that might narrow down the search area."

Anyone with information that may assist with the search is encouraged to call the Sector Juneau command center at 907-463-2980.

A winter storm advisory is in effect for the search area.  Weather on scene is reported to consist of gale force winds, low visibility and snow.
