Coast Guard rescue crews medevac injured sailor in Nantucket Sound, Mass.

BOSTON - The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 57-year-old male six miles south of Hyannis, Mass. Tuesday. 

Shortly after 10 a.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England received a radio transmission from sailing vessel Dark & Stormy III stating that one of their crewmembers had been struck in the head with the vessel's boom and they were requesting assistance.A rescue crew aboard a 45' Response Boat Medium from Station Woods Hole was launched and Coast Guard Cutter Hammerhead was diverted to assist.The Station Woods Hole crew brought the sailor to Hyannis Harbor where he was transferred to local Emergency Medical Services."The master of the Dark & Stormy III was extremely professional in providing first aid to the injured crewmember before Coast Guard personnel arrived on-scene", said Petty Officer 1st Class Andy Case.  "Station Woods Hole responded quickly and was able to transfer the patient to local EMS in just over an hour from the initial call."
