Coast Guard rescues 1 after sailboat capsizes in Duvall Creek, Annapolis

March 15, 2015

BALTIMORE — The Coast Guard rescued a man from the water Sunday in Duvall Creek in Annapolis. Local police contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Baltimore at about 10:15 a.m. to report a sailboat capsized, leaving one person in the water. The man in the water initially used his cell phone to call 911. A 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Annapolis was already underway and diverted to respond to the distress. The response boat crew located and rescued the man from the water. “Our crew was already underway training near where the man was reported to be in the water,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Thomas Hatfield, the officer of the day at Coast Guard Station Annapolis. “The crew’s proximity made for a quick response time and rescue.” The man was transferred to an Anne Arundel County fire boat and taken to shore. The man had no reported injuries. The Coast Guard towed the sailboat to a local marina.
