Coast Guard rescues 2 boaters from the water near Sarasota Pass, Fla.

July 11, 2015

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.— The Coast Guard rescued a man and a woman after they fell from their personal watercraft near Sarasota Pass, Florida, Friday.

At. 10:07 p.m. watchstanders from Coast Guard Station Cortez, Florida, received a 911 transfer call from Sarasota Police Department of a man on a disabled boat reporting he had seen two people fall off of a personal watercraft into the water.

At 10:12 p.m. a 29-foot Response Boat-Small II crew from the station was launched, arrived on scene and rescued the pair from the water. They were both wearing their life jackets. The crew safely transported the people and their personal watercraft to the 10th St. boatramp in Sarasota.

"This was a job really well done by the whole crew," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Kyle Gaub, an officer of the day at the station. "We were able to gather the people's position quickly and safely pull them out of the water. I don't know if that would've been the same outcome had they not been wearing life jackets."

There were no reported injuries.
