SEATTLE — A Coast Guard aircrew rescued a swimmer stranded on Kissing Rock near Gold Beach, Oregon, Friday.An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station North Bend, Oregon, hoisted the man from the rock and transferred him to the nearby beach in good condition.Watchstanders at Coast Guard Search and Rescue Detachment Rogue River in Wedderburn, Oregon, received a call from Curry County 911 Dispatch shortly before 4:30 p.m., requesting assistance to rescue the 37-year-old man from the rock who was unable to return to shore due to the rising tide.The Rogue River crew notified watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Bend, Oregon, who directed the launch of the aircrew and a 47-foot Motor Life Boat crew from Rogue River. Both crews launched around 5 p.m.The Dolphin crew arrived on scene around 5:30 p.m. and safely hoisted the man.“We remind all those recreating in the Pacific Northwest this summer that water temperatures in this area remain cold all year round,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Delilah Anaya, watchstander at Sector North Bend. “This swimmer was only wearing shorts, and clearly wasn’t prepared to stay out in the elements for an extended period of time. We encourage everyone to dress for the water temperature and use the buddy system.”Weather on scene was reported to be seas up to 3-feet, 11 mph winds, an air temperature of 64 degrees Fahrenheit and a water temperature of 53 degrees Fahrenheit.
