Coast Guard rescues three people in Lake Tahoe

September 21, 2016

SAN FRANCISCO — The Coast Guard rescued three people from a sinking vessel in Lake Tahoe Tuesday afternoon.

A distress call was received shortly after 3 p.m. reporting a 25-foot vessel named Just Enough was taking on water near the California And Nevada border of the south shore.

Boatcrews from Coast Guard Station Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County Sheriffs responded. The three adults aboard the distressed vessel were transferred to Station Lake Tahoe’s small boat, and a Good Samaritan from the vessel Sundance helped tow Just Enough to Tahoe Key Marina.  There were no reported injuries.

“We highly advise all boaters to wear life jackets and always have an effective way to communicate with response agencies,” said Chief Petty Officer Dan Polhemus, officer in charge of Station Lake Tahoe. “While boaters rely on cell phones for emergency communications on the water, VHF-FM radios are the most reliable form of communication.”
