Coast Guard responding to sunken tow vessel, oily bilge water discharge on Intracoastal Waterway

March 20, 2016

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is responding to a tow vessel that partially sank in the Intracoastal Waterway near Barataria, Louisiana, Sunday.

The tow vessel Ally Kat is partially submerged at mile marker 10 on the ICW, and is estimated to have discharged approximately 200 gallons of oily bilge water.

Responders on scene deployed boom around the Ally Kat in an effort to contain any further oily bilge water discharge.

The Ally Kat contains about 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel, however none has reportedly leaked at this time.

The Ally Kat is not currently a hazard to navigation and traffic remains unaffected.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans Incident Management Division is investigating the cause of the incident.
