April 1, 2016

LOS ANGELES – Coast Guard responded to a boater in distress approximately 5 miles near Anacapa Island, Friday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach received a Mayday call at 7:30 a.m. from a boater stating his vessel was disabled and the engine was smoking.

The Coast Guard sent out a broadcast notice to mariners in the area and the good Samaritan vessel, Fanatic, quickly arrived on scene to assist the vessel.

Watchstanders immediately launched a 45-foot Response Boat- Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Channel Islands Harbor to assist the vessel.

 No injuries were reported.

Coast Guard crews safely took the disabled vessel in tow near Anacapa and transited into Channel Islands Harbor.

The Coast Guard recommends marine-band radios are set to channel 16 for boaters in distress to be able to quickly call for help.
