PHILADELPHIA – The Coast Guard is responding to an oil sheen in the Shark River, after it appeared on the surface during dredging operations near Belmar, N.J., earlier today.
Crews aboard the dredge deployed sorbent boom to contain the affected area.
The source of the sheen is unknown; however contracted divers are scheduled to investigate tomorrow during the daylight.
Also responding to the sheen is New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
