NEW YORK – Coast Guard Cutter Sturgeon Bay and Coast Guard Cutter Wire are searching to locate an overdue boater in the vicinity of Staten Island, N.Y.
At approximately 8 A.M. this morning, the Coast Guard Sector New York Command Center was notified that the boater was transiting from the Erie Canal and was supposed to arrive in Staten Island yesterday.
The boater, Ken Allen, 41, set out on his 42-foot, white sailing vessel and was in constant contact with a friend throughout his journey.
On Dec. 8, 2014, he notified his friend that he had run aground and was possibly suffering from broken ribs. He refused to seek medical attention and said he would continue sailing.
The last time Allen was heard from was on Dec. 12, 2014, and was thought to be in the New York area.
