Coast Guard searching for person in the water near Annapolis, Md.

August 9, 2015

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Coast Guard is searching for a man in the water Sunday off Sandy Point near Annapolis.

Personnel from Coast Guard Sector Baltimore received a call from a good Samaritan stating four children and one adult were in the water one mile north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and one mile east of Sandy Point State Park.  A Coast Guard Station Annapolis boat crew and a Coast Guard Auxiliary boat crew launched to assist.  The good Samaritan, aboard a sailing vessel, helped the children and adult, all Spanish speaking, into the sailing vessel and awaited assistance.  The Coast Guard Auxiliary vessel crew took aboard the five survivors and provided a translator.

During the translation, the Auxiliary crew learned a sixth person, the children's father wearing a red shirt, is still missing in the water.

The Auxiliary crew transported the five individuals to Sandy Point and placed in the care of EMS. Their condition is unknown.

Air Station Atlantic City, N.J. is launching a helicopter crew to assist in the search.

Anne Arundel Fire Department, Maryland National Resources Police and Tow Boat US are also assisting with the search.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Coast Guard Sector Baltimore at 410-576-2525.
