NEW LONDON, Conn. – Coast Guard Capt. Edward Cubanski, III, commander of Sector Long Island Sound, Captain Jeff Dziedzic, TowBoatU.S. and Captain Joe McGuinness, Sea Tow signed a Memorandum of Agreement in support of maritime search and rescue responses at Coast Guard Station New London, Thursday.
The signing of this MOA fosters the interagency relationships in Sector Long Island Sound through scheduled Coast Guard search and rescue training.
“The Coast Guard is honored to have such proactive and supportive commercial assistance providers to take part in the search and rescue training,” said Capt. Cubanski. “These two partner agencies have always been a vital maritime safety component responding to numerous calls for help in the heavily trafficked waters of Long Island Sound.”
Establishing the MOA also leads to a more efficient use of Coast Guard assets when responding to a search and rescue case near Long Island Sound, including the south shore of Long Island and Connecticut coastline.
Multiple agencies throughout the area have already signed on and have completed training with Coast Guard small boat station crewmembers. This improves each partner agency’s ability to assist the Coast Guard in future search and rescue cases.
