NEW YORK – Military personnel and New York Police Department officers are scheduled to conduct an active shooter drill at Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island, New York, today.
The exercise is scheduled to start at noon.
This is a previously scheduled drill and has no specific relationship to past or current events.
There will be numerous police vehicles and uniformed personnel responding along with NYPD helicopters. In order to ensure a realistic drill, military personnel and NYPD officers will be utilizing simulated munitions, training weapons, and engaging in tactics and procedures that would be used in real situations.
There will be temporary road closures aboard Fort Wadsworth and a visible NYPD presence in the surrounding area.
