CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard is searching for a missing 21-year-old kayaker who was last seen in the water near Holly Beach, Thursday morning.
Missing is Adrian Garcia. He was last seen wearing a red shirt.
At 11 a.m. Thursday, Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi watch standers received a call from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department stating they received a report of a kayaker having a hard time making it back to shore and they were launching an asset to assist. Once on scene, they were able to locate the kayak and paddle, but not Garcia.
Sector Corpus Christi issued an urgent marine information broadcast over VHF-FM channel 16, launched a MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter from Air Station Corpus Christi, and a 33-foot response boat from Station South Padre Island.
