Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook crewmembers rescue one, tow disabled vessel near Sandy Hook Bay, N.J.

NEW YORK -- Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook crewmembers rescue one person and tow a disabled sailing vessel near Sandy Hook Bay, Sunday.

At 8 p.m., Watchstanders at Sector New York command center in Staten Island, New York, received notification of a tow boat that had become disabled while towing a disabled sailing vessel and requested Coast Guard assistance.

A Station Sandy Hook rescue boatcrew was launched and arrived on scene at 8:06 p.m.

Once on scene the tow boat immediately sank and the rescue boat crew quickly rescued the operator from the water and safely transported him to Station Sandy Hook.

A New York Fire Department vessel arrived on scene and placed the disabled sailing vessel, with two people aboard, in a stern tow toward Station Sandy Hook.

The Station Sandy Hook rescue boatcrew returned back on scene and the FDNY vessel transferred the tow to the rescue boatcrew.

The sailing vessel was safely moored at Station Sandy Hook.

Sector New York issued a Safety Marine Information Broadcast informing mariners about the location of the sunken vessel 

No injuries or pollution have been reported.
