HONOLULU — The Coast Guard suspended the search Thursday, for a possible missing person just outside the surf break near Diamond Head Light House.
A Coast Guard Auxiliary aircrew conducted a first light search today and did not find anyone in distress.
Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Honolulu Command Center received a report about 6:55 p.m., Wednesday from a good Samaritan, stating she spotted an unmanned, white short surfboard adrift outside the surf break.
Personnel in the area were contacted and reported no signs of distress. There are no correlating reports of missing persons.
An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point was launched Wednesday and searched the area along with a rescue boat and jet-ski crew from the Honolulu Fire Department.
The Coast Guard also offers free "If Found" decal to be placed in a visible location on small, human-powered watercraft through the Operation Paddle Smart program. The information on the sticker can allow response entities to quickly identify the vessel's owner and aid search and rescue planners in determining the best course of action.
The stickers can be obtained for free at local harbormasters, through the Coast Guard Auxiliary, from Honolulu Sail and Power Squadron offices and at select marine retail and supply stores.
