Coast Guard suspends search for possible missing motorized parasailor

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.— Coast Guard crews have suspended their search, Tuesday, for a motorized parasailor who was reported going into the water one mile west of Redington Beach, Florida.

Coast Guard Sector St Petersburg, watchstanders received a call at approximately 5:20 p.m., Monday, from a bystander along the beach who reported they observed a person gliding with a motorized parasail, hit the water, bobbed for ten minutes then disappeared.

It was also reported they could not make out a description of the person.

"We treat every distress report as if it is a actual search-and-rescue case,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Philip Lengyel, an operations specialist at the sector. 

Coast Guard crews covered a search area of 270 square miles during 10 searches.

Crews from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Florida, Coast Guard Station Sand Key, Florida, Coast Guard Cutter Alligator, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Pinellas County Sheriff's Office and Indian Rocks Beach Marine units aided in the search.
