Coast Guard suspends searches for 2 off Boca Raton

MIAMI — The Coast Guard suspended its search Wednesday for two reportedly missing Cuban migrants  off the Boca Raton coast.

Coast Guard crews suspended their search at 7:39 p.m. after covering more than 1,530 square miles near Boca Raton.

Assets involved in the search were:

  • The Coast Guard Cutter Dolphin crew
  • A Coast Guard Air Station Miami HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane crew
  • A Coast Guard Station Fort Lauderdale 45-foot Response Boat—Medium boat crew
  • A Coast Guard Station Lake Worth Inlet 33-foot Response Boat—Small boat crew
  • A Customs and Border Protection, Office of Air Marine aircrew

The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Gannett rescued six Cuban migrants from the water Wednesday morning.  The group was spotted by the cutter crew while transiting the area during a patrol. The rescued migrants said two others from their group had reportedly been missing since sunset Tuesday.
