NAGS HEAD, N.C. — The U.S. Coast Guard medevaced a patient from the Outer Banks Hospital in Nags Head Thursday.
Watchstanders with the Coast Guard 5th District received a request from Outer Banks Hospital reporting a 55-year-old man suffering heart and respiratory complications.
A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched from Air Station Elizabeth City. The crew arrived at the Outer Banks Hospital at 9:10 a.m. and transferred the patient, as well as a nurse and doctor, to care for the patient in flight. The helicopter crew landed and transferred the patient, nurse and doctor to Sentara Princess Anne Hospital in Virginia Beach, Virginia.The helicopter crew returned to Air Station Elizabeth City after the transfer. There is no further information on the patient.
"The U.S. Coast Guard is always ready to help the community," said Brian Neilan, Search and Rescue Specialist for the 5th District Command Center.
