CLEVELAND – Coast Guard crews rescued a 14-year-old boy who became stranded in Misery Bay near Presque Isle State Park in Erie, Pennsylvania, Thursday afternoon.
The boy’s name is not being released and there is no imagery available.
Around 1 p.m., the Presque Isle Park Rangers notified a watchstander at Coast Guard Station Erie of a 14-year-old boy who was stranded in Misery Bay. The boy was hunting on shore with his father and went out into the bay in a paddle craft to retrieve their catch when the boat was pushed by the current, and a newly-formed ice shelf prevented him from reaching the shore.
A rescue boat crew from Station Erie drove a truck to the nearby shore and launched aboard an inflatable rescue craft.
Once the crew arrived on scene with the boy, a West Lake, Pennsylvania, Fire Department rescue crew arrived in an airboat. Both the boy and the Coast Guard rescue crew embarked upon the airboat. The firefighters took all parties back to shore.
The boy reported no injuries.
The water temperature in Misery Bay was 33 degrees and the area was under a lake effect snow warning.
