ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — William Coffey was rescued by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission crews in a debris field eight miles west of Hudson Beach, Florida, Tuesday.
Missing is Anthony Coffey, 29.
FWC crews reported to the Coast Guard they found Coffey severely hypothermic and clinging to a lifejacket. He was transported to Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Florida, by an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Florida.
A good Samaritan contacted Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders at approximately 1:40 a.m., via VHF-FM channel 16 radio reporting he heard a mayday call over channel 8 of a vessel, the Miss Melody, taking water and stating they were going down.
An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew and an HC-130 Hercules air crew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Florida, a 45-foot Response Boat — Medium boat crew from Coast Guard Station Sand Key, Florida, and crews from FWC continue the search for Anthony Coffey.
