Station Cape Disappointment's area of responsibility includes Long Beach Peninsula on the Washington coast to Tillamook Head on the Oregon coast and is situated at the mouth of the Columbia River.

WARRENTON, Ore. — Lt. Tom Condit relieved Lt. Scott McGrew as commanding officer of Coast Guard Station Cape Disappointment in Ilwaco, Washington, Monday.
Condit's previous assignment was at Boat Forces and Cutter Operations Branch, Standardization and Doctrine Team in Yorktown, Virginia. While serving as team leader of the Doctrine Team, he evaluated boat forces policy, doctrine and tactics, techniques and procedures guide, and enhance operational effectiveness throughout the fleet.
McGrew will be attending the University of Washington's School of Marine and Environmental Affairs in Seattle, where he will pursue a master's in marine affairs, specializing in fisheries.
Station Cape Disappointment's area of responsibility includes Long Beach Peninsula on the Washington coast to Tillamook Head on the Oregon coast. Situated at the mouth of the Columbia River, it is the largest Coast Guard search and rescue station on the Northwest coast, with 50 crewmembers assigned. Cape Disappointment is also the site of the oldest search and rescue station within the Thirteenth Coast Guard District.
So far in 2015, the crew of Station Cape Disappointment has responded to 204 search-and-rescue cases in which they have save 94 lives and saved $20 million in property.
