WARRENTON, Ore. — The Coast Guard suspended the active search for Thomas Miller, 68 year-old male, and Tina Pittman, 41 year-old female, who went missing off the North Jetty of Grays Harbor, Washington, Thursday evening.
The search was suspended at about 7:15 p.m., after crews aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Astoria, a 47-foot Motor Life Boat, from Station Grays Harbor located in Westport and the Coast Guard Cutter Adelie, an 87-foot patrol boat homeported in Port Angeles, Washington, conducted a total of 16 searches over 24 hours.
Coast Guard crews searched more than 1,200 trackline miles and 555 square miles during search efforts.
"The decision to suspend a search is extremely difficult,” said Capt. Daniel Travers, commander Coast Guard Sector Columbia River. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the missing boaters and their families."
The search began at about 7:10 p.m., Thursday. After a probable search area is saturated with maximum number of assets and crew effort, and the person is not located, the decision is made to suspend an active search.
The Coast Guard can resume an active search if credible information is received regarding the missing person’s whereabouts.
