***MEDIA ADVISORY*** Coast Guard Cutter Escanaba to receive new captain

June 30, 2015

BOSTON — Coast Guard Cutter Escanaba is scheduled to hold a change of command ceremony Wednesday in Boston.

WHO: Cmdr. Patrick F. Peschka will be relieving Cmdr. Patrick J. Dougan as the commanding officer of Coast Guard Cutter Escanaba.

WHEN: Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at 10 a.m.

WHERE: Coast Guard Base Boston, main gate, 427 Commercial Street, Boston, Massachusetts.

The change of command ceremony is a time-honored military tradition. It is a formal ritual conducted before the assembled company of the command. It conveys to officers and enlisted personnel of the cutter that although the authority of command is relinquished by one person and assumed by another, it is still maintained without interruption.

The Coast Guard Cutter Escanaba (WMEC-907) is a 270-foot medium endurance cutter homeported in Boston. The keel was laid April 1, 1983 at Robert Derecktor Shipyard Incorporated, Middletown, Rhode Island. The first Escanaba was sunk June 13, 1943, during World War II's battle of the Atlantic while escorting a convoy off Newfoundland, Canada.  There were only two survivors out of the 105-man crew.

Media interested in attending are requested to RSVP to First Coast Guard District Public Affairs at 617-717-9609 by 7 a.m. Wednesday.
