Event: Cold water safety demonstration and training

What: Coast Guard Station Golden Gate members and local partner agencies invite media to attend a cold water safety demonstration.

As part of ongoing efforts to educate the public about general boating safety and cold water safety tips, Coast Guard and local partner agencies will be on hand to provide information throughout the event on topics ranging from cold water drowning, the proper equipment to wear and have, tips on how to survive in the cold water, indicators of hypothermia, the gear and rescue equipment local agencies use for the winter season, and the ‘danger zones’ in the Bay Area.

When: The demonstration is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Tuesday, Dec.16, 2014.

ALAMEDA, Calif. - Coast Guard Station Golden Gate members and local partner agencies are conducting a cold water safety demonstration at 9 a.m., Tuesday, at Station Golden Gate.

Along with maintaining crew proficiency, Coast Guard members are inviting the public and media to receive training on cold water safety. Demonstrations will be conducted both on and off shore.

 *Editor’s note: Media are welcome to do weather reports aboard a Coast Guard boat while the crew surveys the area for air and sea conditions at 6:56 a.m., Tuesday. Interested media may also join our crewmembers in the water during the offshore demonstration. Please RSVP by Monday evening along with your size for a properly fitted protective gear the Coast Guard will provide.
