PORTLAND, Maine — Coast Guard Sector Northern New England is scheduled to hold a change of command ceremony Thursday in Portland.
WHO: Capt. Michael A. Baroody will be relieving Capt. Brian S. Gilda as the commander of Coast Guard Sector Northern New England.
WHEN: Thursday, June 18, 2015 at 11 a.m.
WHERE: Ocean Gateway Terminal (OGT), 14 Ocean Gateway Pier, Portland, Maine.
The change of command ceremony is a time-honored military tradition. It is a formal ritual, conducted before the assembled company of the command. It conveys to the officers, enlisted personnel, civilian employees, and auxiliarists of the Coast Guard that although the authority of command is relinquished by one person and is assumed by another, it is still maintained without interruption.
Sector Northern New England encompasses Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Eastern New York. There are 540 active duty Coast Guardsmen stationed in the Sector.
