CAPE MAY, N.J. — The staff and children of the Child Development Center, located onboard the Coast Guard's Training Center in Cape May, are scheduled to receive book donations from Janet Cantrell, spouse of the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard, Stephen Cantrell, Wednesday, July 1, 2015.
Cantrell developed and organized a book drive to help replace the books that were damaged at the CDC after water from a burst pipe flooded the facility and destroyed the 1,000 books it had in its library. Cantrell solicited donations from Coast Guard units asking for age appropriate books and has received 38 boxes totaling more than 2,500 books from all over the country including a donation of more than 700 books from Coast Guard Sector Upper Mississippi River in St. Louis, MO.
A short program for Cantrell, which will include the presentation of a book titled, "A Book For Mrs. Cantrell" that was written and illustrated by the children is scheduled to occur.
