ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A Coast Guard crew rescued eight people from an 30-foot after they began taking on water 33 miles west of Anna Maria Island, Florida, Monday.
At 1:55 p.m. an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Clearwater, Florida, on a training flight, heard a mayday call via VHF-FM radio channel 16 from of a boat taking on water with six adults and two children aboard.
The crew immediately diverted and arrived on scene at 2:05 p.m., hoisted the people and transported them to the air station. There are no reported injuries.
The boat has reportedly sank and is marked as a hazard to navigation with a white strobe light.
