Boats from each unit, as well as a 65-foot boat built by Safeboat for the Tunisian navy, were strung together, serving as a platform for participating members as they gathered around and paid tribute to a fallen shipmate.

Chris Magavero, retired Coast Guard chief petty officer and Gill's lead petty officer while stationed at the MSST 91111 in Anchorage, Alaska, spoke of his time serving with Gill and reminded crew members of the dangers of the job.

Magavero served as Gill's lead petty officer at Maritime Safety and Security Team 91111 in Anchorage, Alaska, from 2004 to 2006.
