New leader takes helm at Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team Boston

BOSTON — The crew of Maritime Safety and Security Team Boston conducted a change of command ceremony Friday at Faneuil Hall.During the proceedings, Lt. Cmdr. Anna M. Hart relieved Lt. Cmdr. John P. Kousch as the commanding officer.Kousch took command of the unit on Feb. 11, 2013, and was responsible for 62 active-duty personnel and six 25-foot response boats in conducting global maritime security missions.Hart reports from New London, Connecticut where she was the organizational performance school chief and instructor at the Coast Guard’s Leadership Development Center.  “I want to thank John, the crew, and their families for welcoming me to the unit,” said Hart. “I’m honored and humbled to lead this extraordinary team.”The ceremony concluded with the retirement of Lt. Cmdr. Kousch after 15 years of service. “Working with the men and women of MSST Boston has truly been the greatest honor of my professional life, and I know I’m leaving the unit in good hands,” said Kousch.The change of command is a time-honored tradition that ensures the continuity of command. It is a formal ceremony conducted before the entire crew. The ceremony marks the transfer of total responsibility, authority, and accountability for MSST Boston and the accomplishment of its assigned mission. It is conducted according to a formally prescribed ritual, to honor and maintain traditions of the service.
