*Photo Available* Coast Guard Rescues 2 from disabled vessel near New Haven Breakwall

November 11, 2016

NEW YORK — A Coast Guard crew from Station New Haven, Connecticut, rescued two people after their boat had become disabled near the West Breakwall at the entrance to New Haven Harbor on Friday morning.

At approximately 10:00 a.m., watchstanders at Sector Long Island Sound Command Center received a distress call on VHF-channel 16 from an individual aboard a 31-foot vessel.

The person stated that their boat had become disabled and the wind had pushed them into the rocks at the breakwall.

The command center issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and launched a Coast Guard Station New Haven rescue boatcrew.

At 10:30 a.m., crewmembers aboard a Coast Guard 45-foot Response Boat-Medium arrived on scene to find the individuals in life jackets aboard the disabled vessel.

The Coast Guard boatcrew was able to remove the vessel from the rocks and then establish a stern tow to take the individuals back towards Branford, Connecticut. A commercial salvage company then assisted once in Branford Harbor.
