ELIZABETH CITY, N.C.— Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City crew members welcomed Braeden Hahn, his parents Lou and Becky Hahn and his friend Logan Stolk Monday, to tour Coast Guard facilities and assets in Elizabeth City.
Braeden Hahn, a 14-year-old New Jersey resident, suffers from severe aplastic anemia, a life-threatening condition that affects his blood cells and platelets. Despite that, Braeden has shown resolve in fighting against the condition to pursue a dream of one day becoming a Coast Guard aviator.
The tour included a walk through the rescue swimmer training school where Braeden witnessed actual rescue swimmer training. Braeden was then shown the classrooms where rescue swimmers receive hands-on training with the equipment they use in the field. Next, Braeden boarded an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and an HC-130 Hercules aircraft with crew from Air Station Elizabeth City. Lastly, Braeden visited the rescue swimmer shop where he was presented with unit patches and a shirt.
