** PHOTO RELEASE ** Coast Guard Community Festival Celebrated in Cape May

May 9, 2015

CAPE MAY, N.J. — The Coast Guard Community Festival is in full swing as Cape May County celebrates its designation as a Coast Guard Community, Saturday.

After months of planning, the three-day event has drawn large crowds to the Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May to celebrate the designation as only one of two Coast Guard Communities in the nation. Beginning Friday, Coast Guard Commandant, Adm. Paul Zukunft, presented the official proclamation to the Freeholders and Mayors of the different municipalities in Cape May County. Saturday, hundreds filed onto the training center for food, fun, music as well as ship and base tours.

"This celebration really does demonstrate just how much the community and the Coast Guard interact with one another here in Cape May County," said Chief Warrant Officer John Edwards, Training Center public affairs officer. "This is the Coast Guard's hometown, and we couldn't be more proud of this recognition."

The festival is scheduled to conclude Sunday following a breakfast buffet and other events being held at the Cape May / Lewes Ferry Terminal.
