JUNEAU, Alaska — A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew medevaced a 17-year-old girl who was injured while operating an all terrain vehicle on Kodiak Island, Alaska, Sunday.

The Jayhawk helicopter crew medevaced the ATV rider and transferred her to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at Lilly Lake Seaplane Base in Kodiak.

Coast Guard 17th District command center watchstanders received an agency assist request from the Kodiak Police Department after an ATV rider  became seriously injured while operating an all terrain vehicle in the vicinity of mile marker 37 on the Chiniak Highway.  The duty flight surgeon was consulted and recommended the medevac.

“This is the second all terrain vehicle accident our crews have responded to in the past week,” said Lt. Joseph Schlosser, 17th District command duty officer.   “We cannot stress enough the importance of being mindful of your surroundings and operating within your personal limits while on these types of vehicles.”

Weather on scene was reported as 72 degrees with clear skies.
