Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay, headquartered in Philadelphia, held two groundbreaking ceremonies Thursday in New Jersey.
The first ceremony was held at Coast Guard Station Atlantic City; the second ceremony was held at Coast Guard Station Manasquan Inlet.
Mortensen Construction plans to build at Station Atlantic City a boat maintenance facility that can withstand a 500-year flood event. The two-story boat maintenance facility a maintenance bay that will allow the station's crew to perform boat maintenance indoors. The facility will also have training rooms and storage.
Mortensen Construction plans to build at Station Manasquan Inlet a multi-mission building that can withstand a 500-year flood event. The three-story multi-mission building will feature a boathouse, locker rooms, crew berthing, galley, mess deck and communications room.
“This is a great investment in the future,” said Capt. Benjamin Cooper, the commander of Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay. “These projects will help us carry out our missions of search and rescue, law enforcement, homeland security and marine environmental protection for many years to come.”
