June 13, 2015

NEW YORK — U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Eagle held a change of command ceremony aboard the Eagle while at anchor near the Statue of Liberty this evening.

Capt. Matt Meilstrup assumed responsibility as commanding officer of Eagle from Capt Raymond ‘Wes’ Pulver in the change of command ceremony.Vice Adm. William “Dean” Lee, commander of Atlantic Area, presided over the ceremony."I applaud the outgoing Commanding Officer, Capt. Pulver, who over the past three years has trained thousands of Cadets and Officer Candidates, and has made an indelible mark on the proud history of our Barque Eagle," said Lee.The change of command ceremony is a time-honored tradition that formally restates the continuity of command - the transfer of total responsibility and authority from one individual to another. The ceremony affords personnel of the command, guests and the community at large to recognize the achievements and service of the commanding officer, while at the same time welcoming aboard the prospective commanding officer. The Eagle is currently deployed in support of the 2015 cadet summer training program. EAGLE will moor at the Atlantic Salt Co. Pier tomorrow and is slated to depart New York on Tuesday.    Eagle will be open for public tours in Staten Island, as listed here.To follow Eagle’s summer cruise, visit the ship’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/CoastGuardCutterEagle
