BALTIMORE — The Coast Guard assisted a man Saturday who was injured in a personal watercraft accident near Ocean City.A 24-foot Special Purpose Craft-Shallow Water crew from Coast Guard Station Ocean City was on patrol when friends of the injured man flagged the crew for assistance.The man sustained a leg injury and displayed signs of hypothermia.“After realizing EMS transport from the island would be impractical and time consuming, I decided to intentionally ground our vessel on the northern side of the island and sent two crewmen to assist the victim and to transport him back [to our boat] to be taken to our station where EMS were waiting for him," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Andrew Sumski, the coxswain aboard the SPC-SW.Awaiting EMS personnel transported the man to Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.For breaking news, follow the 5th District on Twitter @USCGMidAtlantic.
