Update 2: Coast Guard suspends search for missing fisherman near San Leon

HOUSTON — The Coast Guard suspended their search for a missing fisherman in the Houston Ship Channel near Eagle Point around 6:45 p.m., Saturday.

Response crews searched for 25 hours and covered approximately 272 square miles in their search for 49-year-old Ba Van Nguyen. Their search efforts saturated the Houston Ship Channel and its smaller tributaries to the north and northeast.

"Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Mr. Ba Van Nguyen,” said Lt. Melissa K. McCafferty, Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston command duty officer. “Our hearts are with them in this troubling time. On behalf of the Coast Guard, we would like to extend a special thank you to the other agencies and volunteers for their support in the search effort.”

Participating in the search was Coast Guard Air Station Houston, Coast Guard Station Houston, Coast Guard Station Galveston, Coast Guard Auxiliary, Galveston County Sheriff’s Office and good Samaritans.

The search is suspended pending further information.
