Watchstanders at the Coast Guard 13th District Command Center were notified of the vessel in distress after they picked up a signal from an electronic position indicating radio beacon, which prompted the launch of the helicopter crew and a 47-foot Motor Life Boat crew from Coast Guard Station Coos Bay.

WARRENTON, Ore. — The Coast Guard is continuing to search for two missing fishermen after a body was discovered on the jetty following an allision and subsequent sinking of the vessel Eagle III at the jetty near the entrance to Coos Bay, Ore., Wednesday.

Coast Guard Air Station North Bend and Coast Guard Station Coos Bay crews will continue to search for the remaining fishermen.

"The vessel has broken up with a large debris field congregating along the northside of North Jetty, with some debris migrating with the tide across the bar and into the river," said Cmdr. Robert Workman, operations officer, Air Station North Bend. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the missing fishermen and the deceased."

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard 13th District Command Center were notified at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night of the vessel in distress after they picked up a signal from an electronic position indicating radio beacon from the 40-foot crab fishing vessel, which prompted the launch of both helicopter and the Motor Life Boat crews.

Initial reports stated the vessel capsized a mile off, but further information has indicated the vessel allided with the jetty.

Weather on scene was 12 mph winds, with a 44 F temperature and 51 F water temperature.
