UPDATE: Coast Guard, local agencies continue search for missing kayaker near Tybee Island, Georgia

TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. — Crews from the Coast Guard and local agencies continue to search for a missing kayaker, Tuesday, in the vicinity of Tybee Island, Georgia.

Missing is a 38-year-old man, last seen wearing green cargo shorts, a blue T-shirt, and a blue lifejacket.  

Coast Guard crews have covered approximately 1,890 square miles, and are searching an area covering Tybee Island and up to approximately 24 miles offshore.

Coast Guard crewmembers aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Chinook, a 45-foot Response Boat—Medium from Station Tybee Island, and an HC-130 Hercules airplane from Air Station Clearwater, Florida, searched Tuesday. The Coast Guard is scheduled to continue the search throughout the night and into Wednesday morning with crews aboard a C-130, an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter, and the Cutter Chinook.

Local agencies assisting in the search include crews from Savannah-Chatham Metro Police and Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
