SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — The Coast Guard has located the owner of an overturned Hobie Cat that was found in Lake Superior about four miles northwest of Grand Marais, Michigan, Wednesday.
The owner is safe, on land. The vessel capsized July, 29 off of Keweenaw Peninsula with two passengers aboard. The two people were rescued by a good Samaritan, but the owner stated he was unable to recover the catamaran, which was left unmanned and adrift.
The Coast Guard Auxiliary took the vessel in tow and moored it to a breakwall in Grand Marais.
The 16-foot sailing vessel was found at about 8 a.m. EST by a passing charter boat.
Crews from the Coast Guard, Coast Guard Auxiliary, National Park Service and local police were involved in the search.
