US Coast Guard auxiliarists honored at national convention

Four Coast Guard auxiliarists and two Auxiliary Flotillas were honored Saturday at the Auxiliary National Convention held in Phoenix, Arizona.

Ronald Zwicky, of Auxiliary Flotilla 1-18 located in Oahu, Hawaii, was formally recognized as the 2015 Coast Guard Auxiliarist of the Year. Zwickey, who serves as a coxswain, instructor, interpreter and fingerprint technician, logged more than 1,450 hours of Auxiliary support across missions ranging from surface patrol operations to providing vessel safety checks to the boating public.

The Recreational Boating Safety Award of Excellence was presented to Auxiliary Flotilla 014-10-13 of Wyckoff, New Jersey, Donald L. Mooers of Flotilla 070-14-04 located in Jacksonville, and Carl D. Mosbaugh of Flotilla 082-05-03 located in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Also recognized were the recipients of the Recreational Boating Safety Partnering with Pride Award, Doris Armour of Flotilla 082-16-02 located in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Flotilla 114-06-06 located in Orange County, California.

"We are so grateful for the selfless contributions of our volunteer servant leaders in the Coast Guard Auxiliary, and we are honored to recognize these exceptional members for their service to nation by contributing their time and talents to help make our waterways safer for the recreational boating public," said Capt. F. Thomas Boross, chief of the Office of Auxiliary and Boating Safety. "They are true force multipliers who excel in promoting recreational boating safety via their unparalleled public outreach efforts."
