U.S. Coast Guard, Royal Canadian Air Force searching for man missing in Lake Superior near Tofte, Minn.

SAULT STE MARIE, Mich. — Rescue crews from Coast Guard Station Duluth, Coast Guard Cutter Alder and a Royal Canadian Air Force C-130 aircraft crew from Winnipeg, Manitoba, are enroute to search for a man in the water off of Tofte, Minnesota.

The man's name is not being released and there is no Coast Guard video or imagery available for this case.

At around 3:20 p.m., CST, a watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Sault Ste. Marie received a report from Cook County, Minnesota, dispatch reporting a man in the water near the Bluefin Bay resort in Tofte, Minnesota.The watchstander immediately dispatched an ice rescue team, as well as a crew with a 25-foot response boat from Station Duluth via truck and trailer and issued an urgent marine information broadcast advising mariners of the situation and asking them to keep a sharp lookout and report all sightings to the nearest Coast Guard unit and to assist if possible.

A Coast Guard helicopter crew from Air Station Traverse City, Michigan, was also requested but currently can not respond due to icing conditions in the area.

The Station Duluth ice rescue crew is currently on scene conducting shore-side searches with local responders. The response boat crew is also on scene, but is unable to launch due to the current sea state.A second man, who had previously been in the water, has made it back to shore and was transported to a local hospital by EMS.

The man's condition is unknown at this time.
