April 16, 2016

CAPE MAY, N.J. – Member’s of the Coast Guard Training Center Cape May hosted a career day, Friday, for students at Crest Memorial School in Wildwood Crest, N.J.

The training center’s Partnership in Education team hosted the event for students that included sharing information and offering displays from the training center’s seamanship instructors as well as Small Boat Station Cape May. Additionally, the students were able to get “hands on” with the display of an HH65 rescue helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J.

"Training Center Cape May was thrilled to coordinate with our partners at Station Cape May and Air Station Atlantic City to provide a broad picture of Coast Guard opportunities for the students involved in the Career Fair at Crest Memorial School,” said Cmdr. Brian Krautler, the mission support officer at the training center. “Students had a great time learning about Coast Guard ships, boats, and aircraft," Krautler said.

Coast Guard members discussed boating safety with the students, discussing life jacket requirements and demonstrating lifesaving equipment, as well as relaying stories from their Coast Guard service and providing tours of a CG HH65 helicopter.

One student said it was "the best career day ever."

The training center’s Partnership in Education team consists of 45 volunteers, comprised of active duty members, who volunteered approximately 400 hours last year to various educational events with Cape May Elementary, Crest Memorial Elementary and Teitelman Middle School.
