WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Coast Guard worked alongside local and state law enforcement and search and rescue agencies Saturday in Wrightsville Beach from a command post at Coast Guard Station Wrightsville Beach.Coast Guard Station Wrightsville Beach active and reserve members worked with Wrightsville Beach Police and Fire Departments, Wilmington Police Dept., New Hanover Regional EMS, New Hanover County Fire and Sheriff’s Departments., North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement officers and Alcoholic Beverage Control officers, North Carolina Wildlife and others for the third year in a row.“Setting up an incident command post and working together allows us all to maximize our manpower and respond more efficiently,” said Senior Chief Petty Officer Lane Marshburn. “By working from the same location, we communicate more effectively and ensure we’re doing our best to keep people safe out there.”Crews spent the day watching over thousands of beach goers and boaters and cracked down on illegal water taxi and intoxicated boat operators.“Overloaded boats, over indulgence in alcohol and the high volume of traffic out there were among the three greatest challenges our crews faced today,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Eric D. Tucker, a boatswain’s mate and the officer of the day at Station Wrightsville Beach.
