PHILADELPHIA — The Coast Guard medevaced a man Thursday requiring medical assistance aboard a commercial fishing vessel east of Fenwick Island.Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay in Philadelphia received a call on VHF marine radio channel 16 at approximately 1:15 p.m. Tuesday from the 92-foot commercial fishing vessel Alaska indicating a 34-year-old male aboard the vessel experienced a puncture wound while working approximately 35 miles east of Fenwick Island, Del.The Coast Guard Cutter Mako arrived on scene at 2:41 p.m. and sent a boat crewmember aboard the commercial fishing vessel Alaska to assist in hoisting the injured man. Approximately 15 minutes later, an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Air Station Atlantic City, New Jersey, arrived on scene and lowered Petty Officer 3rd Class Christopher Conway, a rescue swimmer, and a litter basket aboard the vessel.The man was hoisted to the helicopter and flown to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City, where he received medical attention.“Due to the communication between the multiple Coast Guard assets on scene, as well as the fishing vessel having a VHF radio, we were able to get the man the medical attention he needed at the quickest rate possible,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Jonathan Cinquegrana, an operations specialist at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay.
