Coast Guard Sector Juneau command center watchstanders received an agency assist request from the Alaska State Troopers regarding a woman reportedly suffering from a knee injury and quickly diverted the rescue helicopter crew, who arrived on scene within two minutes.

JUNEAU, Alaska — A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka aircrew rescued an injured hiker from Mount Verstovia in Sitka, Alaska, Tuesday night.

The Air Station Sitka helicopter crew hoisted the woman and transported her to Sitka where she was met by awaiting emergency medical services personnel.

Coast Guard Sector Juneau command center watchstanders received an agency assist request from the Alaska State Troopers regarding a woman reportedly suffering from a knee injury and stuck on Mount Verstovia.  Sector watchstanders quickly diverted the MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter crew, who arrived on scene within two minutes.

“We urge anyone hiking to use extreme caution and be aware of often unstable surfaces,” said Scott Giard, Coast Guard Sector Juneau watchstander.  "This woman was in a bad situation, but the fast response of the Alaska State Troopers and our aircrew prevented it from becoming worse."The weather on scene at the time of the hoist was reported as calm and clear.
